How to Remove Your Volkswagen Wipers - Service Mode

Applies to: Polo (AW 2017+), Golf (MK8 2020+), T-Roc (2017+), Tiguan (2016+), Passat (2019+), ID.3, ID.4

On many Volkswagen models, the wipers park beneath the bonnet edge. Do not force the arms upwards. Put them into service mode first, then they are easy to reach.

How to Activate Volkswagen Wiper Service Mode

  1. Switch your auto wiper feature to manual mode using the wiper stalk. This step is important, if the auto rain sensor is active it can interfere with the sequence.
  2. Turn your car off.
  3. Immediately hold the wiper stalk DOWN for about 3 seconds. The wipers will lift from beneath the bonnet to a vertical service position.
  4. You can now change the blades.
  5. To lower the wipers again, turn the car on and activate the wipers once.

Just one quick check

The Golf MK8 from 2020 features touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel rather than physical buttons for some functions. The wiper stalk itself remains a physical control — the service mode sequence is the same as on the Golf MK7. The ID.3 and ID.4 also retain a physical wiper stalk despite their otherwise heavily digital interiors.

Make Sure the Blades Fit
