How to Remove Your BMW Wipers - Service Mode

Applies to: 1 Series (F40 2019+), 2 Series, 3 Series (G20 2019+), 4 Series, 5 Series (G30 2017+), X1, X3, X5 (G05 2018+)

On many BMW models, the wipers park beneath the bonnet edge. Do not force the arms upwards. Put them into service mode first, then they are easy to reach.

How to Activate BMW Wiper Service Mode

  1. Turn your car on, then immediately turn it off.
  2. Press and hold the wiper stalk DOWN until the wipers stop in the upright position. On some earlier BMW models, the stalk must be held UP instead. This usually takes 3 to 5 seconds.
  3. You can now change the blades.
  4. To lower the wipers again, turn the car on and push the stalk DOWN once.

Just one quick check

On older BMW models built before 2017,  including the F30 3 Series and F10 5 Series, the sequence may require holding the stalk UP rather than DOWN. If the stalk down sequence does not work, try holding it up instead. The wipers will simply activate normally if the sequence is not recognised, so there is no risk in trying both.

Make Sure the Blades Fit

Wiper sizes and fittings can change between versions of the same model. Enter your registration and we'll match your car with the correct front and rear blades.

We’ll also send the fitting video and any service-mode steps your car needs. Open the box and you’re ready to go.
